Pubs & Restaurants in Windermere

Eating Out

There is a good choice of places to eat in Bath, at a range of prices. You will find restaurants and pubs specialising in food from a variety of countries including Chinese, French, Italian, Thai, Lebanese, Mexican and Turkish. There are also many take-aways and a selection of fast food places. Restaurant prices vary considerably but they usually have menus on display which you can check before you enter.

Bath also has some traditional English teashops, where you can get a cup of tea and a piece of cake, or a traditional cream tea, which is a sweet scone with jam and cream. Sally Lunn's tea house in North Parade Passage is reputed to be the oldest house in Bath. It is also worth sampling a traditional British pub lunch. Besides those in the City, there are many pubs in the beautiful countryside around Bath where you will be able to get a filling meal for a reasonable price. If anything on the menu is confusing just ask the staff - they will be pleased to explain what they mean!

Tips and service charges
It is, unless the service has been poor, normal to pay a tip of approximately 10% of the total bill. Check your bill at the end of the meal however - some places now add a service charge automatically (you do not have to pay this).

Nightlife

To gain a very different perspective of Bath, you may want to take the Bizarre Bath Walking Tour (tel. 01225/335124), a 1 1/2-hour improvisational tour of the streets during which the tour guides pull pranks, tell jokes, and behave in a humorously annoying manner toward tour-goers and unsuspecting residents. The tour runs nightly at 8pm from Easter to October, no reservations are necessary; just show up, ready for anything, at the Huntsman Inn at North Parade Passage. Cost is £6 for adults, £5 for students and children.

After your walk, you may need a drink or want to check out the local club and music scene. At The Bell, 103 Walcot St. (tel. 01225/460426), music ranges from jazz and country to reggae and blues on Monday and Wednesday nights and Sunday at lunch. On music nights, the band performs in the center of the long, narrow 400-year-old room.
